Are your images just a little too perfect? Anything Goos is a dirt and ageing shader plug-in that works with your favorite noise shaders to highlight features of your mesh. Chip the paint from the edges, and fill the creases with grime using Anything Goos.

Anything Goos UICarrara Options

  1. Size controls how far the line extends from an edge.
  2. Use the Invert function to switch between white lines or black lines.
  3. Space controls where the Size option is calculated, in Global or Local space.
  4. Falloff determines how the line fades from white to black. There are several options including custom. Click the Custom Falloff button to edit the falloff when Falloff is set on Custom.
  5. Use Min/Max to set alternate values instead of black and white.
  6. Edges determine which types of edges are highlighted. Perimeter edges are only one facet. Inner edges are creases. Outer edges are ridges. Shading Domains are edges that border a shading domain. The Degrees slide controls how sharp an edge needs to be before it is considered an inner or outer edge.
  7. Advanced Edge Detection makes second pass on edges to look for edges that may not show in the first pass as shared edges. It has slow start up speed, but will help correctly identify edges that are not perfect matches. Render speed is unaffected.
  8. Use the Noise sub shader to add randomness to the edge falloff.

Anything Goos UIAnything Goos NodeLightWave Options

  1. Base Color is the color away from the edges. It can be set, controlled with the Graph Editor or input node.
  2. Goos Color is the color near the edges. It can be set, controlled with the Graph Editor or input node.
  3. The Blend, Opacity, and Invert options work like the options on the built in LightWave nodes.
  4. Use the Noise input node to add randomness to the edge falloff.
  5. Falloff determines how the line fades from Goos to Base Color.
  6. Distance controls how far the line extends from an edge.
  7. The Edge Angle controls how sharp an edge needs to be before it is considered an inner or outer edge.
  8. The Include Alpha and Include Alpha Blend options can be used to include other functions in the Anything Goos ouput. For example, you may want to include a noise node's alpha output to spread grim over an object in addition to the edges identified by Anything Goos.
  9. The Bump Amplitude controls how much the Anything Goos function itself contributes to the Bump output node.
  10. Edges determine which types of edges are highlighted. Inner edges are creases. Outer edges are ridges. Perimeter edges are only one facet. In the node editor the are previewed on the X, Y, and Z axes.
  11. Use the Base and Goos inputs and values for Luminosity, Diffuse, Specular, Glossiness, Reflection, Transparency, Refraction Index, and Translucency to drive the matching output channels.

Tips and Tricks

  1. Anything Goos uses the surface normals of facets to figure out where the sharp edges are. If your model's normals are messed up, Goos will not give good results. Use the modeler to correct the normals.
